Ultimately, all music is a hybrid of things; even when it comes from one person. When it comes out, it reflects one's own experiences, knowledge and personal tastes. Pial comes from the Beneres repertoire of tabla playing and Vikram has a background in western music and jazz. This album represents their musical meeting point, so to speak.
Vikram Pinto first saw Pial Hossain accompanying sitar virtuoso Karthik Seshadri. Vikram was really impressed by Pial's speed on the tablas, the clarity of his strokes, his precise recitations and musical sense. As fate would have it, they met soon after in the elevator of the music building at UCSD and agreed to meet up to jam and see what happens. After performing together at various venues around San Diego, they decided to record their compositions.
