The Round Robin, in ancient (early 18th century to 19th century) pirate mutiny code...a proposed of mutiny by seamen discontent with their captain and with the state of play in their ship or small fleet. Was usually instigated by the quartermaster, coxswain or by the second in command and the reasons usually were ...lack of prizes, despotic and arrogant behaviour leading to some too harshest punishments, etc.. This document contained a list of mutineers...was written in circle...so, if the mutiny went wrong, as often did, the captain was left in command - the mutineers were usually thrown overboard getting them to 'walk the plank'...BUT - being the document in circle - the Cap'n could not know for certain who were the ringleaders...which was excellent; the ship could not afford the loss of half of its crew...so life continued and piracy too.
